Kitchen Phase 2 Complete
Lots of changes since we last visited the kitchen.

Lower cabinets painted - Cement Gray by Martha Stewart
Doors put back up
Cabinet hardware installed - drawer pulls, cabinet door knobs and new hinges

The off white counters and appliances kind of look dingy now don’t they? Oh well I’m willing to live with that for awhile.

Drawer pulls. The hardware sent with these was way too long and had notches so that you could (apparently) cut them down to size. It was impossible to cut them down so I ended up finding some old screws in my toolbox that fit and went with those.

HI!! Here I am modeling our cabinet door knobs and my sweet camera.

Not bad for a project I didn’t really intend to do this year.

Left to do: new floor (because my god that green fake marble linoleum is dirty even when it’s clean), new lighting, new outlets/switchplates, and a roman shade for the window pictured above. Maybe also a new faucet since this one has started leaking.

The fabric I will attempt to make said roman shade with. Wish me luck.
Just in case you forgot what it used to look like, here’s a good before and after:

Kitchen Update
Okay, so much for updating throughout the week on this project. I DEFINITELY bit off more than I could chew and apparently picked the wrong week to stress out my dear husband, Mitch even more than he already was, but more on that later…
I did not finish as much as I had hoped to, but I am definitely happy with what we ended up with.

The first night painting the ceiling went great. I covered everything with plastic drop cloths and hoped the neighbors were not looking in our windows that night because they may have mistakenly thought they lived next to Dexter. I finished by about 10:30pm and felt very accomplished.
Going into day two I was feeling overly confident about this project (totally jinxed it). Day two was NOT fun. Trying to prep everything for primer took A LOT longer than I planned (note to self: it ALWAYS does!). I had to take down some old window hardware and that was way more challenging than it should have been and also there was a rouge cabinet hinge with a stripped screw that I actually ended up taking a pry bar to. Sigh. I eventually got the walls primed but the trim, doors and cabinets would have to wait.
Day 3 added a new challenge I hadn’t expected. My body was starting to give out. I was sore and trying to keep my energy up to finish priming everything else. I eventually got that all done and went to bed feeling a little better about the whole project as I would have the entire day Friday to work on it (I had taken the day off from work).
Day 4 I got up earlier than even our pup Luna (that never happens!) and got started taping off the ceiling and trim in order to paint the walls. I downloaded some new music on iTunes and was kind of hoping to wake up Mitch with my loud rendition of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s classic “I Like Big Butts”. I got two coats on the walls and then got started on the trim. The trim took A LONG TIME. You think after painting 4 other rooms in this house I’d remember that. My body was really hurting and I was hobbling like an 80 year old. I finally accepted Mitch’s offer to help and we worked on two coats of paint on the trim, doors and upper cabinets until almost midnight.

On Saturday my parents were visiting for my birthday and my husband had apparently been planning a suprise birthday dinner and party for me for over a month for that evening. It’s a good thing we had cleaned up in anticipation of my parents arrival! My poor husband. He didn’t know how to tell me that the kitchen project was maybe a bad idea for this week. HA, no wonder he kept offering to help me finish up!

(Best Husband EVER!)
So I still have the lower cabinets to do, a third coat on the trim and doors is needed and I need to find hardware to put all the doors back up, but I am really happy with what we accomplished in such a short amount of time.
I leave you with this:

A Note ON a Care Bears Lunchbox cake!! Made by my lovely friend Kate who is SO talented with fondant!
What a wonderful end to an insanely busy week. :)
because i’m a crazy person…

I have decided to take on the enormous challenge of painting my entire kitchen before Saturday. (this is while also going to my day job 4 out of the 5 days this week).
I started out painting the upper cabinet doors a few weeks ago. I have 7 of the 10 upper doors done so far. This leaves me with 3 upper doors, 6 lower doors, 3 drawers, the cabinet boxes, the ceiling, walls and trim to go.
Tonight I am going to buy paint, take down the ceiling fan and prep the space for painting. Tomorrow I paint the ceiling!
Can I finish by Saturday? Tune in all week for updates.
Above are the BEFORE pictures to show you were we started from.
Looks like my Luna!

Royal Wedding

Say what you will about the Royal Wedding. I personally didn’t give it much thought other than, I’d really like to see her dress, but then this morning when I got up and turned on the news (I get up really early) it was on. So while I ate my cheerios I watched Kate walk down the aisle with her Dad and hold it all together (which I barely did at my own wedding and we only had around 85 guests and it was not being televised and I was not marrying an ACTUAL prince) and then I watched William lean down and whisper “you look beautiful” to her and I knew without having to read it online or watch some silly commentator say it on the news. I knew exactly what he said to her and a frog was instantly in my throat.
Now I don’t know these people and I don’t actually care about the hoopla, but there I was getting choked up watching their wedding. I’m hopeless.
30 days until I’m 30.

My first birthday (special thanks to Mom for scanning and sending the photos)
In 30 days I will be 30 years old.
Apparently I should be freaking out about this. Apparently I should be crying and whining and feeling old. I don’t. In fact I think I’m more excited about this birthday then I was for any of the milestones that came before it. Yes, even more excited than I was for my 21st birthday (which funny enough was, I think, the last time I had an actual Birthday Party).
I’m so excited in fact that I have created a Pinterest board entitled “30 for 30”. So if you’re looking for expensive gifts to get me, there you go! ;P Have you heard of Pinterest? Is it a faux pas to mention it here on Tumblr? Are they like rival schools?
I have recently become addicted to Pinterest and I encourage you, my small readership, to check it out. IT’S SO PRETTY! Also you can check out my boards for starters which I’m adding to pretty much every minute.
30 days…
